You Are Not You
While this work came together rather quickly the concept and meaning took a few years to develop. Edith had approached me with a personal idea and over the years I had been thinking of how I could visually interpret this. I am thrilled to feature model Jebediah Shorten in this collaboration. The audio portion tracks a real life 5-yr. relationship of voicemails between Mark and Sarah. They will both remain anonymous. Hair and make-up designed by Edith Chan.
A Photo & Audio Installation
I’m really sorry.
We are all susceptible to indescribable pain and suffering. With life, there are immense highs and lows. You are not you is a series of works that tracks a woman at her most prettiest and her not so pretty moments. There are obstacles and challenges everyone faces, but what is honorable is whether your loved one will stay with you through these waves. Deciding on that partner is difficult, and choosing to stay with that partner can be even more stressful. Can the shared history be enough to sustain you both for decades or is it time to throw in the towel and let it all go. These are the decisions we ask ourselves and hopefully the choice is made clear when our time ends.
It is never easy seeing yourself as we re-visit different phases in our life. Losing a part of yourself, and re-discovering a ‘new’ you takes an incredible amount of courage and strength.
With the addition of Mark and Sarah’s voicemails, this audio dimension connected with me. It is sincere. And no one is clearly right or wrong; it is these moments where we have to re-think the beginnings of love and its end. And hopefully we will re-learn our lessons on what it takes for us to find true happiness.
